Sabic presents a new filament for 3D printing

Sabic, one of the most well-known chemical companies in Europe, has just officially launched a new filament designed exclusively for use in Stratasys Fortus Classic industrial printers. This new type of filament has been baptized by the company itself with the name of LEXAN EXL AMHI 240 F.

As has been revealed by Sabic herself, apparently this new filament stands out compared to the rest of the models that you can already find in the market where it is based on the polycarbonate copolymer technology developed by the company itself. Thanks to this, the filament offers high impact performance and low temperature ductility.

The chemical company Sabic tells us about the new LEXAN EXL AMHI 240 F

This new material, taking into account above all its specifications, stands out as potentially interesting for the aerospace, consumer electronics and automotive industries. As a detail, as has been revealed from Sabic, the LEXAN EXL AMIH 240 F is the first of several new materials with different performance characteristics that the company plans to launch in the very short term.

The new filament features a high level of hardness as well as better ductility at room temperature and temperatures down to -30 ° C. Compared to standard PC, this material offers up to four times better Izod impact with notches at room temperature, and up to three times better at -30 ° C, depending on the print orientation. It has a thermal deflection temperature of 140 ° C, which is higher than that of general-purpose acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) filaments. This makes the new filament a great candidate for use in high temperature applications.

Meets Underwriters Laboratories' UL94 V-0 flammability standard to 3,0mm in flat (XY) and edge (XZ) orientations, making it suitable for a wide range of applications requiring fire resistance. It is available globally for sampling. It is initially offered in black, with plans to release additional colors, including white, in the near future.
