Siemens brings 3D printing to rail manufacturing

Siemens

Siemens is one of the companies that is contributing the most to bring 3D printing to all types of sectors and for this, on this occasion, they have reached an agreement with the company Stadwerke Ulm / New Ulm Verkehr GmbH, a German manufacturer and supplier of all kinds of services related to the world of transport, so that they begin to use different 3D printing techniques in their production lines.

On this occasion, as stated in the title of this same post, Siemens has succeeded in using 3D printing in the manufacture of parts for trams. For this they have finally opted for the use of the 3D printer Fortus 900mc, which has come out of the Production catalog of Stratasys. As has been commented from the German company, thanks to this action it has been possible that parts that took weeks to manufacture do so in just several days.

Siemens succeeds in bringing 3D printing to railway construction.

As he commented Tina Eufinger, Manager of the Business Development and Division of Siemens Mobility:

Since we have incorporated the Stratasys Fortus 3mc Production 900D printer into the manufacturing process, we can offer production services for final parts that are much more flexible and adapted to the needs of each of our clients.

Before integrating 3D printing into production, we had to manufacture a small number of parts, we ended up storing the leftovers until they were used, discarded or obsolete for use, With the Fortus 900 mc, we can create a fully customized design with specific requirements, optimize it several times before printing it in 3D. In this way, production time is reduced from weeks to days and the process is profitable enough to expand our service offering including the production of unique pieces.
