SolidRun Introduces ClearFrog, a Board for Communications

clearfrog

More and more companies are trying to create an SBC board that mimics or tries to monopolize a feature that the Raspberry Pi currently does. And it is that the possibilities of the raspberry computer are many.

One of the most unknown, although it was one of the first functions, is to use the SBC board as a communications center. This is precisely what it seeks to offer SolidRun with its ClearFrog board. ClearFrog is an SBC board that doesn't have a large GPIO but has enough ports that makes the board ideal for communications, like a minirouter.

ClearFrog will have a slot for sim cards and offer 3G connection

The intention of SolidRun is to offer an alternative to who want to have a home routerHowever, the board has some strengths that make it useful for other things besides being a router. So ClearFrog has a processor Marvell ARMADA 38x with 2 Gb of ram, microsd card for internal storage, one usb 2 port, one usb 3 port and two ethernet ports.

It also has a microhdmi output, a SIM card reader and GPIO that allows us to add some extra functions to the board, like making a gadget "smart". ClearFrog uses any operating system that has the Linux 3.1X kernel, although they recommend using Openwrt, a system characterized by its relationship with routers and other communication devices.

SolidRun board costs $ 117- $ 90, depending on the units we buy. A relatively high price if we consider other solutions but quite interesting if we plan to use elements such as the 3G connection or combine ethernet ports with a GPIO port. If 3G does not enter our thoughts, there may be other more popular and cheaper solutions such as Pi Zero or VoCore Do not you think?
