You will soon be able to visit the new tourist Fab Lab in Lyon

Fab Lab

Curiously, the city of Lyon must face a rather unusual problem, which is that it has what is known as Chamarier's house, a cultural asset of about 1.000 m2 of surface very close to the Cathedral of San Juan, a place located in a very privileged area that must be used for some cultural purpose in order to obtain benefits from the investments that must be made to maintain it .

Going into a little more detail, it should be noted that the Chamarier's house, basically the home that at the time was occupied by the financial mayor of the bishop of Lyon, was built in the XNUMXth century. This house, because it belonged to a high position in the bishopric, had certain characteristics that make it unique, such as a stone cordon that borders the entire facade, a twisted spiral staircase or windows that do not have studs.

With all this in mind, the Lyon authorities have not thought of anything other than to open a new Fab Lab on the ground floor. It will offer all interested tourists an interactive experience where they can discover old Lyon through the latest technologies of the moment. An example of this, as noted in the press release, is that visitors can literally create a replica of the great metropolitan temple using 3D printing or learn the history of the place through an application for smartphones.

The distribution of this Fab Lab de Lyon will be as follows:

  • Model Room: As its name indicates, in this room there will be a model of the old town in a traditional format and in augmented reality.
  • The laboratory: Adjacent to the Hall of the Maqueta we will find, just behind some large sliding glass doors, a multipurpose space where all kinds of conferences can be held, training will be given and there will even be room for several startups related to the world of applications.
  • Digital Manufacturing Workshop: A workshop equipped with professional laser engraving and cutting machines, 3D scanners and printers, computer equipment and traditional tools will be installed in the basement of the house.
