Stratasys is chosen by McLaren for the acquisition of several advanced 3D printers

McLaren

We have known for quite some time that Formula 1 teams are as cutting-edge as they can be McLaren-Honda they are testing all the advantages that incorporating a technology such as 3D printing into their teams can offer them. After months of testing, the leaders of both companies have not only been delighted with the results, but have already chosen who will be the supplier of this type of machine. In the specific case of McLaren-Honda they have finally opted for the American-Israeli company specialized in the 3D printing sector Stratasys.

In the agreement reached by the leaders of Stratasys and the Formula 1 team, we find that both companies are committed to jointly develop new parts, tools and even technological solutions designed to improve the performance of their Formula 1 cars as much as possible when they are competing, both in qualifying and in the race itself. For starters, Stratasys will supply McLaren with two of its most advanced 3D printers, the FDM and Poly Jet with which the British company will try to build state-of-the-art materials for visual and functional prototypes.

McLaren relies on Stratasys to bring 3D printing to its cars.

For Stratasys, as the company's chief executive has commented, Ilan Levin:

We are delighted to be working with such a tireless, visionary and ambitious partner. McLaren will take advantage of our almost 30 years of experience in 3D printers and other materials to establish itself as a benchmark in technological development in motorsports. Stratasys will also receive information and data based on the high-performance applications used in motorsports, which we can then apply to our customers in the automotive and aerospace industries. At the same time, McLaren will benefit from superior productivity, engineering precision and a wide range of materials coming from our 3D printers.

For his part, as commented by himself Eric boullier, McLaren boss:

The ability to build, mold and evaluate new components is an invaluable asset for any dynamic and ambitious racing team. Our agreement with Stratasys will not only increase our value in this area, but will also allow us to dynamically explore and utilize the innovations of your 3D printers. Motorsports' commitment to rapid prototypes and other builds has been confirmed and we are eager to receive good service in our alliance with Stratasys
