Stratasys to manufacture various parts of the Airbus A350 XWB

Airbus A350 XWB

In the latest press release released by Airbus, the company has just announced that after many tests they will finally be able to introduce 3D printing to the manufacture of certain parts of their new aircraft A350 XWB and for that they have decided to turn to a specialist like Stratasys, which will be responsible for the manufacture of these parts by 3D printing.

Before continuing, we must make it clear that the company will be responsible for the manufacture of different non-structural parts such as supports and other parts for the installation of systems. These pieces will be manufactured with the material ULTEM 9085 developed and patented by Stratasys itself thanks to many years of collaboration with Airbus, work that has served to develop this complex material destined, almost exclusively, to the production of parts for Airbus aircraft.

Stratasys Direct Manufacturing will be in charge of manufacturing Airbus parts on demand

For Joe allison, General Manager of Stratasys Direct Manufacturing, a division within the multinational that will actually be in charge of manufacturing the parts that will later be assembled on the Airbus A350 XWB:

We are proud to be working with Airbus to further develop 3D printing for aerospace applications. Our knowledge of building parts ready for installation on the aircraft, coupled with our unique process and quality controls, will enable Airbus to improve its competitiveness by taking advantage of the technical advantages of 3D printing.

One of the strengths for this collaboration agreement to be carried out is precisely that Stratasys Direct Manufacturing already has the infrastructure and capacity in terms of 3D printing necessary to support and manufacture the parts that Airbus needs completely on demand. that for the company specialized in the design and construction of aircraft considerably reduce production times as well as inventory costs.
