In the Estós valley, shepherds monitor their livestock with drones

livestock surveillance with drones

Little by little, even the oldest professions are beginning to look favorably on the great possibilities that new technologies can offer them. You have proof of what I say in how the farmers of the municipality of the Aragonese Pyrenees of Benasque, Namely the Estós valley, they are betting on use drones to monitor your livestock, especially what they graze in the meadow and their state of health.

Thanks to the mixture of traditional extensive livestock farming techniques and state-of-the-art technology such as unmanned aircraft, ranchers have been able to greatly facilitate their daily surveillance tasks. The idea had its origin in a rancher in the area who saw the opportunity to use this kind of device to monitor, above all, the movement of his cattle through the mountains. At the moment this drone model is still undergoing tests and completing its development.

Hemav is the company to develop the drones in charge of monitoring livestock in the Estós valley.

This project, baptized by its creators with the name of 'isorigué', a word that in the local language of the area is used to describe the kestrel, is serving to develop a new type of drone that can not only be used to monitor livestock, but also to control temperature variations of cattle since these variations can mean an imminent delivery as stated by Miguel Ángel López, president of the Board of Owners of Estós.

Hemav It is the company that is currently developing the project. The drones used will integrate a series of sensors in their structure capable of sending the collected information to a cloud storage system that the Catalan company has enabled. These data will be previously managed and processed before all information appears on the tracking device owned by the pastor.
