Currently the aims of 3D printing are to develop 3D printing in new fields and to make 3D printers much cheaper, although something has been achieved, they are still very expensive for the desktop. Well, a user of the RepRap Project has announced that he has created a printer that costs less than 100 euros. This user is called Hrib and his printer has named it as Toy Rep 3D.
ToyRep 3D works the same as other printers in the RepRap project, with the exception that it uses cheaper parts and components that make ToyRep 3D cheaper, and even Hrib warns that in some countries it could be even cheaper since the price of 100 euros includes the payment of taxes and fees than in some countries are not paid.
Furthermore, one of the most substantial changes is the use of 28BYJ-48 stepper motors, very affordable motors for all budgets and which have been shown to give the same functionality as traditionally used stepper motors.
ToyRep 3D may be cheaper depending on the country's taxes
What Hrib does recognize is that ToyRep 3D does not have the same printing as other 3D printers since it uses other cheap elements such as the hotend which makes the retraction not as fast and therefore the quality is worse than other 3D printers, however it must be recognized that the advances are very interesting and that for certain figures where quality does not influence much, ToyRep 3D could be more than ideal.
If this 3D printer has made your mouth water like me, know that all the information as well as plans and materials can be found in the Thingiverse repository for free so anyone can build their own 3D ToyRep without the excuse of money.
