Trident, an underwater drone created from a Raspberry Pi 3

Trident

After a few weeks trying to raise as much money as possible through a crowdfunding campaign announced on Kickstarter, the company finally OpenRov has managed to raise no less than 800.000 euros to make a reality Trident, an underwater drone capable of submerging 100 depth meters and autonomy of up to 2 hours.

One of the most interesting details of this project, personally it seems so to me at least, is that it has been used as a base no less than a Raspberry Pi 3, Thanks to this and especially taking into account all the peculiarities and singularities of this card, as well as the fact that the project is open source, each user will be able to add all kinds of modifications, without the need to adhere any type of extra component to the original model.

Trident, an open source underwater drone whose functionality you can modify as much as you want.

According to the OpenRov developers, for the development of Trident they bet on the latest Raspberry Pi model due to the compatibility of the company's software with the small computer. Thanks to this we have among us a new open source underwater drone, very complete, with greater power and, above all, greater data processing capacity.

One of the strengths of the Raspberry Pi 3, as you surely know, is that it already incorporates a module as standard WiFi which allows a multitude of peripherals such as a 360-degree gimbal or a GoPro camera to be connected via WiFi. I am talking about WiFi since this type of feature works even underwater, an environment where the drone will finally work, and that must be taken into account.
