Turn an old phone booth into a music box with Arduino

The older ones will surely know the old phone booths. Booths that allowed us to call by phone when there was no mobile phone or it was not so cheap. These places are being recycled in some countries, but even though the cabins are recycled, the phone inside is still not in good use or a second use.

Instructables User Fuzzy Wobble has created a second use for these phones, a musical use that could be interesting for the most music lovers in the city or any music lover in general.

The idea is to empty all the electronics from the old cockpit gadget and replace it with an Arduino MEGA board and an Adafruit MP3 shield. This set of plates will allow us to play with the scoreboard and with the payment option that the phones have. Thus, thanks to the configuration that detailed in Instructables, the user inserts a coin, presses a code and the phone will play one of the songs that it has inside.

Arduino MEGA can do more than serve as electronics for 3D printing

Fuzzy-Wobble took advantage of technology to introduce the music of the 90s, in such a way that entering the code played a song from this decade. We can do the same but we can also introduce pop music, classical music, hip-hop, raps, etc ...

If we really have a device of this type, the project is interesting and inexpensive, but if we do not have this gadget, the truth is that the project is expensive because buying a phone like that is not cheap at all, although Fuzzy-Wobble opted for this option.

Personally I think there are other uses for this more curious gadget like a normal phone, converting it on a normal wall phone that can be an interesting and functional decorative object. At least I find it more interesting than transforming it into a music box, something we can have in another gadget, don't you think?
