Ubuntu Core is now available for Raspberry Pi Compute Module

Compute Module 3

It is true that Canonical and Ubuntu have been releasing versions adapted to the new version of Raspberry Pi for months. But so far, versions like the Raspberry Pi Compute Module were out of the question for end users. Up to now.

Canonical has officially announced a special version of Ubuntu Core for the Raspberry Pi Compute Module, a special version that will work on such a board but will not contain any limitations or lack any important element. The new version of Ubuntu Core allows the installation of snap packages as well as recognizes the connectivity functions of wifi and bluetooth. This is important because not only will it allow users who own Raspberry Pi Compute Module to have an operating system, but we will also be able to improve our projects thanks to the programs that are in snap format.

Snap packages can now be installed on Raspberry Pi Compute Module thanks to Ubuntu Core

Raspberry Pi Compute Module is a version of the raspberry computer aimed at developers and creators of IoT projects; its ram memory shape makes it an ideal version to put all the power of the Raspberry Pi in IoT projects. Compute Module recently received an update that made it have the same hardware as Raspberry Pi version 3, something interesting because in a ram memory module (this is how the Compute Module version seems) you have as much power as in a smartphone. And now, thanks to the power of snap packages, we can have an office suite, a virtual assistant or simply a Telegram bot.

If you usually work with this version of Raspberry Pi or simply want to test the image for Raspberry Pi Compute Module, in this link you can find the new version of Ubuntu Core. A version that may not make Ubuntu Core popular, but yes that will make more users end up using Ubuntu  Don't you think so?
