Viwa presents its new hybrid of 3D printer and CNC machining

Viva, a company based in the city of Jalisco, Mexico, has just reported through an official press release that they already have available to their customers what may be the first hybrid machine capable of working both as a 3D printer and as a CNC machining system. This development would have been possible thanks to the help in the project of two large American firms such as Centroid Corporation y optomec.

Undoubtedly, and thanks to this development, we are talking about one of the first machines of this type to reach the market, Viwa manages to be one step ahead of all its rivals, something that many international companies will appreciate since in a single machine can now both 3D print your parts using metal powder as perform CNC machining to them. This basically translates into the creation of pieces with finishes that can hardly be improved while, in turn, drastically reducing material consumption.

Going into a little more detail, according to Viwa herself, her new machine will use LENS technology, developed by Optomec and where a laser melts the metal particles that are expelled by a nozzle adhering to the substrate, for the 3D printing of metal parts while, once the part has already been created, machining is carried out which allows reviewing edges, drilling and tapping with great precision. The company Centroid Corporation is responsible for process control software.

As commented Robert Jacobus, CEO of Viwa Industries:

The great advantage of combining these technologies is that it gives users the ability to print metal parts from scratch or print on existing metal parts, to which they want to add new features or even apply coatings and make component repairs with wear or tear.
