Maker Fair Barcelona 2017

This weekend has been the Maker Fair Barcelona 2017. An event in which enthusiasts from all creative disciplines meet that we can imagine (artisans, educators, creatives, engineers, science communities, writers, artists, students ...) sharing all their knowledge and creativity through talks, exhibitions, workshops and interactive demonstrations.

The Maker Faire originated in 2006 in San Francisco as a project of the editors of Make: Magazine. Since then, it has grown to become a global network significant both de the ferias organized by Make, as well as independently produced events.

The Maker Faire Barcelona 2017 has with the support of the Barcelona City Council and fits within the priorities set by the Barcelona Digital City plan and the project “Makers District: Makers District: Fem Barri al Poblenou”, as a pilot initiative for Digital social innovation, a clear trend in Europe. This organized by Sónar + D, Fab Lab Barcelona and Soko Tech, with the support of Make magazine, Barcelona City Council, IN (3D) ustry and Obra Social “La Caixa”.

This fourth edition has decided to change the name (previously it was called Barcelona Mini Maker Faire) and move its location to the Italy pavilion of the Barcelona Montjuïc Fair space to have more space in which to welcome more visitors.

Several projects and initiatives have been presented that aim to equip citizens with the tools to produce their own objects or be self-sufficient. Projects as diverse as the giant-size printers of the Wasp company, capable of building one-piece furniture or the Aquapioneers kits that allow growing vegetables with a circular system that combines aquaculture and hydroponics only using a fish tank connected to a shelf without soil.

Nor could the fair be absent from prostheses made with 3D printers, which allow the creation of prosthetic limbs and countless projects and manufacturers to which later we will dedicate articles in HWLibre.

To whet your appetite We leave you a gallery of some of the exhibitors and projects that most caught our attention. We hope they serve to arouse your curiosity and do not miss next year's edition.
