xMEMS Labs has introduced the XMC-2400, a revolutionary micro-cooling system with a solid-state fan Designed to meet the cooling needs of space-constrained devices such as smartphones, tablets, extended reality headsets, laptops, RAM modules, and SSD drives.
This miniature device, with only 1 mm thickr, offers a highly efficient, vibration-free cooling solution, while being very small so it can be integrated into multiple devices.
Unlike traditional fans, The XMC-2400 runs quietly, without generating any audible noise. It achieves this by using ultrasonic frequencies to operate. Furthermore, despite its compact size, the device is capable of delivering an airflow of up to 39 cc/sec and a back pressure of up to 1000 PaThis impressive performance is achieved with minimal power consumption of just 30 mW.
One of the outstanding features of the XMC-2400 is its robustness. With a IP58 rating, it is water and dust resistant, ensuring reliable operation in a variety of environments. The device leverages xMEMS Labs’ expertise in manufacturing ultra-thin MEMS speakers, resulting in a robust and efficient cooling solution.
To accommodate different system form factors, the XMC-2400 is available in Two packaging options:
- Top ventilation. Designed to allow airflow over the heat source.
- Side ventilation. It is designed for stacked chips.
Both packages offer speeds of adjustable bi-directional flow, ensuring optimal cooling performance.
While the XMC-2400 is a revolutionary innovation, It is not the first of its kindLast year, we saw the introduction of Airjet cooling chips, which also offered solid-state active cooling solutions. However, the XMC-2400 stands out due to its significantly smaller size and higher cooling efficiency.
Compared to the Airjet Mini Slim, the XMC-2400 offers significantly better cooling efficiency, up to x16 times that of its opponent, while consuming significantly less energy.
While the Airjet chip is currently available, Its high price and energy consumption may limit its widespread adoption. On the other hand, the XMC-2400 is still in development, and samples are expected to be available in the first quarter of 2025. Likewise, xMEMS Labs anticipates that mass production will begin in 2026.
However, we will be seeing live events and pricing in Shenzhen and Taipei next September, so that interested industry professionals can get a taste of this innovation…
