Airbus installs, for the first time, a part manufactured by 3D printing in a commercial airplane

Airbus

As you surely know, since it is not the first time that we talked about how the company Airbus is studying how to implement the use of such innovative technologies as 3D printing or the use of drones in its factories. After many trials and especially after going through many quality controls, as the company has just announced, they have already completed the first part manufactured by 3D printing that will be mounted on a commercial airplane.

Going into a little more detail, it is especially striking that, contrary to what you might imagine, this piece has not been manufactured directly by Airbus itself but rather this work has been carried out by the company Arconic, a business based in the state of Texas (United States).

Airbus to begin installing metal 3D-printed parts in the chassis of its commercial aircraft

The most important thing about this is not precisely that we are facing the first part manufactured by 3D printing that will be mounted on a commercial airplane, but that we are facing the first one has passed all the necessary quality controls and that it will be manufactured in series, without a doubt a new milestone that shows that 3D printing is not only ideal for the manufacture of prototypes for tests, but can also be used to create final parts.

As has been confirmed by Airbus, the truth is that they had already managed to design the methodology to manufacture parts, especially plastic, which are installed in aircraft cabins, the real novelty in this section is that we are facing the production of a piece of metal, which involves the use of this technology for the production of parts that will later be installed on the chassis of an airplane.
