Airbus Pop.Up, an autonomous car capable of moving through the air

Airbus Pop Up

The celebration of the Geneva Motor Show has been the ideal excuse they have had in Airbus to present to the public what they themselves have called Airbus Pop Up, a vehicle with characteristics very similar to that of a traditional car that will move around the city in a completely autonomous way until, as the company announces, in the event of a traffic jam it deploys its engines and can get out of the car through the air.

As mentioned during its presentation, this vehicle has been designed in collaboration with the prestigious Italian company Italdesign. The idea is to unite, by means of a modular structure, a vehicle in three very different parts, all of them autonomous, as you can see in the photo that is located right at the beginning of this same entry.

Airbus shows us a fantastic idea to evolve our mobility.

In the first place we would have the most important part, the same in which people will travel, which we could basically describe as a kind of capsule 2,5 meters long by 1,4 meters wide. This capsule can be coupled to two different platforms that will be chosen by an artificial intelligence system that can be configured according to the level of congestion of the road through which we intend to travel, the needs of the user or their preferences.

Among the platforms we have a carbon fiber chassis with wheels equipped with an electric propulsion system and a battery that gives it a range of 130 kilometers. When the module is free, it will return autonomously to a charging station until it is requested by another user. Second we have a 5 meter long drone powered by eight rotors and four motors with a range of 100 kilometers. As a detail, Airbus already has a system capable of recharging the batteries of both platforms in just 15 minutes.
