If yesterday we were talking about a building created by a Dutch architect that, due to its characteristics, had to be built using a 3D printer, now I want to show you another of the great projects, this time nothing less than the winner of the first prize of Home Free Design, a house created by the design consultancy WATG's Urban Architecture Studio. As a detail, tell you that this event has been created with the sole intention of promoting the design of homes that can be built using 3D printing techniques.
Going into a little more detail, we find that the firm WATG's Urban Architecture Studio is a company based in Tennesse (United States) and its challenge was to somehow create a home in a minimum space of Sqm 55. Among the self-imposed requirements, that it enjoy the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room while trying to rethink all the traditional architectural criteria on ergonomics, aesthetics, structure, construction systems, plumbing, electricity, lighting, passive solar design ...
According to its designers, among whom we find proper names such as Brent Watanabe, Miguel Alvarez, Daniel Caven and Chris Hurst, this house was designed in response to the needs of creating a home where curves could form both the primary structure and the exterior enclosure, all this through an elegant and fluid design. With all this in mind, we are faced with a home that, while betting on a outer shell made of expanded foam and concrete, in the interior they bet on a mixture of fiberglass reinforced with concrete panels.
Unfortunately, as those responsible for this design comment, at the moment current technology is not so advanced as to allow the three-dimensional impression of a printed house like the one presented to us, so if we want to build it today, it would be required a mix in the way of working between 3D printing and conventional construction. As a final detail, tell you that this house is expected to be built throughout the year 2017.
