Barilla talks about the capabilities of his 3D food printer

Barilla

A few months ago we had the opportunity to talk about a more than interesting project that was being carried out in the Italian food multinational Barilla in collaboration with the Dutch Institute TNO, nothing less than a 3D food printer capable of printing fully customized pasta. During his last presentation where he wanted to demonstrate the capabilities of the project, he even printed pasta spirals that chef Roberto Bassi seasoned live with a special sauce and served to all those present.

If you are more or less up to date on all the news regarding the world of 3D printing, you will surely know that the fact that the Barilla 3D printer prints pasta is not in itself a novelty. What is truly new lies in the fact that to date this printer was only capable of printing a single piece of dough in about twenty minutes, after long research and development it has been possible to advance technologically so that, today, the printer is able to generate the equivalent of a plate of pasta in about five minutes.

Despite the fact that the Italian multinational is investing and they are fully aware that, unless in the short term, it is truly difficult for 3D printing to be able to replace the dies with which the company today manufactures some seventy different types of pasta, which It is true that in the future it may be more than interesting implement some type of system where 3D printing is the true protagonistFor that, they still have to advance further in their investigations.

Based on the statements made by the technicians and managers of Barilla, thanks to this type of technology it will be noticeably improved from the distribution to the possible taste of the food we consume since, when manufactured in-situ, the taste of them can be much more forceful, which will notably improve our taste for the dishes we eat.
