CATEC is made with a Renishaw RenAM 3M metal 500D printer

CATEC

Like many large multinational companies related to the aerospace world, the Advanced Center for Aerospace Technologies, better known as the CATEC, just announced that they have acquired a new metal 3D printer from Renishaw, specifically the chosen model has been a RenAM 500M.

In case you do not know or are not informed, tell you that today the CATEC is a world-class technology center which is dedicated to the development of advanced research projects related to the aerospace sector in matters such as processes and materials, automation and robotics and even avionics and systems.

CATEC trusts Renishaw for the acquisition of a powerful metal 3D printer.

It should be noted that this is not the first time that Renishaw and CATEC have collaborated on a project but that they have already worked together on several occasions on different projects. With this, it is fair to mention that at CATEC they know first-hand everything that a metal 3d printer like the RenAM 500M, a model equipped with a powerful laser capable of selectively melting the metallic powder located in a bed on a tray.

In his own words Fernando Lasagni, head of materials and processes at CATEC:

At CATEC we are actively working on the development of additive manufacturing applications in the aerospace sector, covering all phases of the production cycle, to help companies implement this technology.

This includes the parameterization of various aeronautical alloys, so that they can be manufactured to the highest standards. Due to the industrial consistency of the RenAM 500M, its greater capacity and its greater laser power (500 W), our short-term objective will be to achieve parameters that ensure the quality of the materials. We look forward to taking steps towards application development and component unit cost reduction.
