Create your own Game Boy Micro

Game boy micro

Many are the projects created by different users of the maker community where they seek to achieve that, for very little money, we can relive all those adventures and hours of play that we have spent on the screen of so many devices. On this occasion I want to present you a project where it has been possible to create a reduced version of the now mythical Game boy micro.

As you can see in the image that is located right at the head of this same post, we are talking about a device that you can even carry hanging as a keychain to enjoy it at any time and place. As a detail, below these lines I leave you a video published by the author of the project, Sprite_TM, where in more than 45 minutes he explains the operation of his device and the manufacturing process.

Learn how to design and build your own Game Boy Micro.

A detail that is quite striking is the use of a small OLED display of just 96 x 64 pixels which, according to the author of the project, has cost him only $ 3,80. To move to this miniature work of art, you bet on ESP32 processor equipped with 240 MHz dual-core and 512 KB of RAM. As a detail, tell you that to all the above we must add that the device has WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

As for the software, as you can see one of the big problems is how limited the equipment's hardware is, so Sprite_TM has had to edit a GNUboy version. On the other hand, they have been working on a wireless way to load the ROMs so it is possible to bypass the limitation in terms of storage that the device has where, unfortunately, only four games can be loaded at the same time.
