Google cancels its drone development project

Google drone

Google It was one of those companies, along with Facebook, that wanted to get the internet to all parts of the planet. With this idea in mind and only a few years ago, the North American company decided to acquire Titan Aerospace, a fairly famous company at that time specialized in the development of unmanned aircraft capable of working only with solar energy, which gave them a capital autonomy, enough to be able to bring the internet to any area of the plant, no matter how remote it was.

Just around that time Google began to emerge in this field since its unmanned aircraft were not only capable of flying, but the results of the first tests were quite satisfactory. Unfortunately and after several months of much more demanding tests they found themselves face to face with the great limitations that this type of technology presented and that is that the wings and other essential components of the project presented design issues that delayed the development of the project, something that has finally led to the cancellation thereof.

Google cancels its project in which, through drones, it wanted to offer internet to the entire planet.

According to internal Google sources, apparently all Engineers who are stationed on Project Titan have been reassigned and are now grouped into Project Loon, same in which Google also wants to give internet access to the entire planet but in a very different way from the previous one since, instead of using fixed-wing airplanes, this one studies how to do the same but using hot air balloons .

In this line, I would like to refer to the words of Mike bashore, information systems manager at Spaceport America:

By comparison, Project Loon presents a far more promising way than Titan to connect the grid to the most rural and remote parts of the world. The new show draws on Team Titan and they are using their expertise to create something with a great future.
