UPS is one of the large multinationals that hopes to be able to launch its drone department for the delivery of packages as soon as possible. While it is finally possible to create a specific regulation for these types of tasks, the company has begun to test its systems in order to have them ready for use as soon as possible. In the specific case of UPS, the multinational has an agreement with the US drone company CyPhy Works, same in which last year invested no less than 22 million dollars.
At the moment UPS is testing its drones to carry out a emergency parcel delivery. Because of this, as they have announced, just a few weeks ago they were testing their system in the state of Massachusetts where one of the drones was in charge of delivering a package with an asthma inhaler inside in a small summer camp. To accomplish this mission, the drone had to travel almost five kilometers, even flying over the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
UPS conducts the first successful test of its drones designed for parcel delivery.
As for the aircraft itself, christened by both companies as PARC, is an autonomous model equipped with a georeferenced navigation system. In turn, the structure has been equipped with a high-resolution camera with thermal images and even specific software that allows it to track targets. As a detail, regarding the GPS, the aircraft has been equipped with two units, several antennas, various communication equipment ... all this so that, in the event that one of them fails, the device can use the reserve device.
