One of the first things that many young and not so young people do when they have enough knowledge of electronics is to create a robot, something that attracts a lot of attention. However, thanks to Free Hardware we can create or modify our own robot without the need for extensive knowledge of robotics.
These robots are easily created thanks to Arduino boards and 3D printers that can print the specific parts needed. In Spain we already know one of the first examples of this, it is called Zowi and it is a totally free robot that can be modified. However there are other types of robots, similar robots like Marty, an option with Arduino.
Marty uses original Arduino boards to work
Marty is a robot very similar to Zowi but uses boards from the Arduino Project so we can create e insert any function as long as it is written in Python or C ++. It also has several servomotors that will allow Marty not only to move forward or backward but also allow him to climb obstacles. The case is printed, so if we want to personalize, we only have to print the necessary parts for personalization.
Marty is a robot that has been created by Alexander Enoch, a Scotsman who was concerned that his nephews and children did not have access to a good robotics kit to build a robot, so he decided to build his robot himself and then distribute it. This distribution will not be quick since money is being sought to sell this robot in any store, this is how it has been launched a crowdfunding campaign to get money. The campaign is going quite well though the necessary money has not yet been raised, about 50.000 pounds. If the campaign information is taken into account, Marty will be released for about 120 dollars, a higher price than other robots like Zowi, but with more features or maybe not?
