Until now, creating your own cheap and hackable laptop was not something very feasible, although you could try doing some adaptations of different elements. But now, with projects like YARH.IO it can be possible in a very simple way, just buying a few essentials and putting it together easily.
It is a project created by hackers, so you can convert your Raspberry Pi on a whole laptop. In addition, it is highly hackable so that you can adapt it to your needs or customize it to your liking, and it will be able to run GNU / Linux without problems.
YARH.IO stands for Yet Another Raspberry Handheld, i.e another handheld Raspberry Pi computer. Its name refers to the fact that it is a project based on the famous SBC and its portable size.
In addition, it allows a high degree of customization to go adding plates or modifying the position of the physical modules in this very particular laptop. Of course, being based on the Raspberry Pi board, it can support all the operating systems available for this board, so you can use from Raspbian OS, to RISC OS, passing other systems like FreeBSD, and a long etc.
The current version of the YARH.IO project is specially designed to be able to adapt a board Raspberry Pi 3 Model B +, so it would not work for a Raspberry Pi 4. However, being so customizable, it could be adapted to the latest Pi 4 board without problems.
It also has a 5 ″ touch screen and with a resolution of 800 × 480 px, a keyboard and touchpad module for control, a 21mAh Fenix ARB-L500-5000 rechargeable lithium battery that can be easily replaced, and a DS3231-RTC clock module.
The GPIO pins of the Raspberry Pi are accessible through the bottom of the main module, so you can also use it if necessary. Something similar also happens for ports and SD card slot.
All thanks to a care digital design using Stampante 3D to be able to house all the necessary components.
